O GF. Yeah, I'm that guy
So, I have a new addition to my life, since right around the time of my last post: a new girlfriend.
Her name is Kathryn Davis, and she is awesome.
I could have made more time for posting, but I've been inspired to be waaaaay more productive at work, and the way I saw it was my choices were either 1) devote any extra time I had to taking pictures or 2) devote any extra time to writing on my blog.
So, I apologize if you've missed my presence here on the interweb.
I don't really publicize this blog, so I would assume the number of people who did in fact miss my posting was pretty low. But it is to you (whoever you may be) that I apologize.
The big reason I am in fact making a post this evening is b/c one of my favorite "small local louisville" stores (one of the many that make the city weird) has a new website and some pretty awesome videos.
Check it out:
There is also some cool videos of the latte art they sometimes make.
Latte Art
Double Heart, Double Rosetta
The Sunergosians (as they're called on the new website) are real true baristas. The people who serve you the corportized swill at Starcash are really just minimum wage flunkies. [Yes I'm snobby about my coffee shops.]
Anyways, if you've never been, there is one located on Preston St, north of whitey's at preston & eastern pkwy, right next to Nord's Bakery and Uncle Pleasants and down the street from the recently revamped Zanzabar.
There is also one located south, on your way to Iroquois Park on Woodlawn between 3rd & Southern Pkwy.
If you've never been to a Sunergos before, I highly suggest trying it out.
Pictures should be coming soon.
PS: Be sure to check out:

Sorry Charlie
Lot has happened since I last posted. I was on EOC duty for the Corps, and drove around taking pictures of levees all over southwestern Indiana and Southeastern Illinois, along the Wabash, White, Embarras, and Ohio Rivers.
Here is a picasa link to the pictures I took. Good times.
https://picasaweb.google.com/111716000034720395244
Unfortunately one of the agricultural levees we were worried about that had gotten kicked out of our program for failure to properly maintain and operate the levee had a breech this afternoon. I hope the rain slows down and stops coming so much and so frequent.
This just adds more to the delay of the WPC. No worries though. There will be time for that in the future.
In the mean time, happy mardi gras weekend, and Laissez les bons temps roulez!

WPC 2011: Sign
![]() |
| . : Girl in the Moon : . WPC 2011 week 5 --D. Lasoski |
My picture for "sign" was found while not really looking. I mean, I took my camera with me this night to take pictures, but not thinking about the photo challenge at all. Just to document what was a fun "gig" with some friends of mine.** I was mainly excited to see what kind of pictures I could gather with my new prime lens (35mm f/1.8). But once I started taking pictures, I knew I was going to use one from this set.
**Note: this is an inside joke. No I'm not going to explain it here. Bingo.

WPC 2011: Colorful

OK. So here is the story for my "WPC-2011 Colorful" picture.
If you've never been to Paducah, you may not realize that it happens to be home of the original AQS national quilt show, and is known as Quilt City USA and the Quilting Capitol of the country.
So my first thought was of the quilt my mom just recently made for me titled "Blocks and Cobblestones" for christmas 2009.
The reason I thought of using this for colorful was simple. Here in Louisville, Ky, there are really only two colors that matter:
You are either on one side or the other. I happen to be a proud alumnus of the University of Louisville Cardinals. Which means I love everything
Red
Black

WPC 2011: Control
You are still going to have to wait on control. I didn't like the pictures I took that week, so I was going to go back and reshoot. I did that, but I still have some work to do deciding which other pictures I'm going to include on the blog and one of the pictures is taking a really long time to photoshop, I'm playing around with multiple multiple levels. It should be pretty cool--photographically.

changes to blog
I know I know I haven't been posting my wpc pictures, but I promise they are coming. In editing the drafts of the ones I already had post-processed I started messing around with the template of this blog, so it has taken longer than it should. But that is nothing new in my life, really.
Anyways, today marks yet ANOTHER missed wpc deadline. Hopefully I'm through with those the rest of the year.
But I figured I'd take this time to mention that if it hasn't already happened (haven't gotten any calls/txts as of this post), it will within the next 12 hours, I'm sure. I will soon be an Uncle!
I can't wait to meet my new nephew, Bennett Miles James. I'm sure Ashton and Liz will make great parents.
Until I get finished with my current drafts (later tonight?), enjoy the slight changes I've made to my blog template.
Oh, and speaking of changes, (teaser--see the rest after the jump, foo)

Busy previous week at work
Sorry about the lack of posts over the past few days. I actually had a lot of work trying to help one of my team lead's conferences over the weekend and didn't have as much time to mess around with the blog as would have liked.
I got some great tips from Mrs. Rev regarding photoshop/gimp. I unfortunately though, have decided I need to redo some of my "colorful" pictures and "control" pictures before I can worry about post processing.
Fortunately, however, some of the work I've been doing with photoshop allowed me to help out my sister whose Thesis is going to be put on kindle and she needed a good cover to include with the thesis.
The result is this:
That is my grandma holding my dad as a baby.
If you'd like to read the book, it will soon be available on kindle for $2.00 I believe.
Got errands to run before I call it a night.

Flex Friday
Today is my flex day. I work 4 9's and an 8 one week, and then 4 9's and 8 hours off the next week. It can be a good thing, if the timing works out alright on your projects.
If I was a complete jerk and didn't care about what I do at work, I'd probably have spent the day cleaning up and trying to catch up on the WPC. I still haven't been inspired by anything for control. I think I'm thinking to hard and just need to start shooting. Colors I've got a pretty good idea on, but I also have to do Sign for next wednesday so I really am caught up.
Anyways, I'm going to go into the office and wrap some stuff up I couldn't get done yesterday. It isn't totally altruistic, cause if that were the case, I'd have gotten up at 8 am and done it.

WPC 2011: Joy
Alright, this one is kind of cheesy and not really interesting photographically (at least not overly so). But it is part of the reason I decided to make the jump into actually doing this. Those 2 letters behind Lasoski on my nameplate at work are the result of 9 long years of blood, sweat & tears. Alright, so it isn't that dramatic, but still it is one of the hardest things I've ever worked at for such a long period of time. Some people are good at doing school and work at the same time. I was not one of those people. Grad school was not easy for me and I had to take it slower than most. But I finished. And I earned the required training experience. And I studied for the license test and passed. And so at the end of that chapter of my life, it gives me quite a bit of joy to be rewarded with those letters.
And with that, here is the challenger:
What are the differences? I'm looking at this, and there is almost an optical illusion where the bottom (processed) picture looks rotated. But I didn't. I think it is b/c of the darkened nameplate shaddow. Anyways, what I did do was adjust the levels, add some saturation, added some contrast and I think decreased the brightness, darkened and desaturated the yellow (it was just way too much). Then I made an oval selection, and transformed the perspective to run similarly to the nameplate. I inverted the selection, feathered the selection quite a bit, and then used the gaussian blur filter to make the nameplate really pop even more so than my depth of field on the camera had. I'm really happy with this post processing job, although it took a while b/c my computer was acting real slow anytime I messed with the oval selection tool. Not sure what that was about.
